Celebrating your birthday is a must-do. If you have the chance to celebrate you, then do so. You deserve it. As my twentieth birthday approaches, I wonder where I am going to celebrate? Well, if I have any excuse to visit my favorite place in the world, then I will take it. New York City is the city where all my wildest dreams reside, and luckily for me I only live 45 minutes away. So for my birthday, this upcoming Sunday, I want to spend it in my favorite city with the people who mean most.
There are so many things to do, so many places to see. And since I am only turning twenty, my activities are limited to those that don’t involve alcohol. From museums to shopping, it won’t be a problem to find something new and fun to do. I thought it may be helpful to bring you along on the journey to finding a place to spend my underaged birthday in NYC; maybe it will help you on your own birthday spent in the greatest city on Earth.
Museum of Sex | NYC
For only $18 per person, one could have a day of fun on their birthday while going to an unconventional museum such as the Museum of Sex. As it pays homage to the preservation and evolution of human sexuality, this museum includes art and media exhibits, as well as interactive ones too. Since seeing pictures and videos of mutual friends at the Museum of Sex, I’ve wanted to visit myself and see what all the hype is about. It’d be cool to explore this museum and then end the night with a lovely birthday dinner.
Lips, the ultimate Drag Queen show, is a time you won’t forget and an awesome place to celebrate your birthday. You only have to be sixteen to get in and the price of dinner and a tip is the price you pay for the entire show. The Drag Queens interact with the audience, making you blush and laugh your socks off. It’s an awesome way to spend a birthday, as they also include those in celebration of something in the show. I’ve been to Lips once before for my cousin’s sixteenth birthday and it was a great experience. I would definitely do it again, in celebration of my own.
Lucky Strike Bowling
Lucky Strike, just a short walk from Times Square, offers access to 26 premium bowling lanes, music, food and drink. With huge plasma TVs and projection screens, one can watch any big sporting event and enjoy a lovely time with friends. Located right near the Hudson, family and friends can take a walk near the water and enjoy the view too. I think it would be fun to bowl with friends and take a walk to Times Square before or after. Beautiful memories would be made!
Central Park Zoo
Who doesn’t love animals?! From snow leopards, bats, and penguins, the Central Park Zoo has everyone’s favorite animal. How great would it be to spend your birthday smiling and gazing at Earth’s most beautiful creations? There is also a 4-D theater, which is only $7 per person, where one is immersed into a visual drama with built-in sensory effects. The Central Park Zoo, is a must do for any trip into NYC and maybe you’ll even get to see Alex the lion from Madagascar.
Madame Tussauds wax museum has all your favorite icons in wax form. Have you always wanted to have your picture taken with Iron Man? Celebrate your birthday, go meet him for yourself and take as many pictures as you want. Madame Tussauds is in the hub of Time Square and easily accessible to restaurants for your birthday dinner afterwards.
Regardless of how you choose to spend your birthday, any means of celebration is well deserved. You are special and this is the one day of the year you can pay homage to your terrific and amazing self. As my 20th birthday approaches, I am excited to spend my birthday with the people who matter most and blessed to have them and the rest of my blessings. Xo
